BARBERTON: The 11th Annual Buckeye Classic 2011 SPA senior softball tournament gets underway Saturday June 11 and Sunday June 12 at the Barberton Sports Complex with the 50’s and 55’s taking center stage.
The tournament has a record number of teams this year with 71 entered. States represented. are Ohio, Michigan, Maryland, Indiana, Minnesota, New Jersey, Kansas, New York, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Illinois, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Ontario Province, Canada.
The 75’s, 70’s, 65’s and 60’s start play Tuesday June 14 through June 18th at both Barberton and Rittman’s Martin Fritz Memorial Softball Field on Industrial Street.
This year teams made up primarily of players from the Silver League will be participating in the 75’s; 70’s; 65’s and 60’s. There are also about twenty Silver Leaguers playing with teams from Pennsylvania and Michigan.
In the 50’s the BUCKEYE CLASSICS play three games on both Saturday and Sunday at the Barberton Complex starting at 9:00 each day. The 75’s VISITAKRON-SUMMIT.COM is in Rittman Tuesday and Wednesday and finish at Barberton on Thursday. Their games in Rittman start at 8:30 with the first game at Barberton beginning at 11:30 Thursday, the 75’s only play two games each day.
BRENNAN’s AKRON 70’s compete in the 70AAA with their first game at 9:00 Tuesday and the first game Wednesday at 12:15, they will play three games each day. GREENDIAMONDGRILLE.COM, a 70’s AA team made up of players from Akron and Columbus will also be at Barberton with their first games each day being 10:15 Tuesday and 9:45 Wednesday, they also play three games each day.
The 65 AAA PRONIO SPORTS team is in the best division in the tournament with some “must see” games. The balls will be flying out of the park with all seven teams borderline AAA/Major caliber. PRONIO SPORTS starts at 10:15 on Thursday and 8:00 Friday. They will be playing three games each day.
There are three Akron teams in the 60’s with the OHIO SILVERADO’S and STEEL DAWGS playing in the AAA Division and MAGIC CITY SPORTS CARDS in the AA. The STEEL DAWGS play their first game Friday at Barberton at 8:00 and Saturday at 8:30 while the SILVERADO’S opener on Friday is 1:50 (against the STEEL DAWGS) and 8:30 Saturday. Both teams will play three games each day.
MAGIC CITY SPORTS CARDS is at RITTMAN Friday for three games with the first starting at 8:00 while Saturday finds them in Barberton to start their trio of games at 9:45.
Remember, because of the tournament there will be no Silver League games scheduled for the BLUE and GOLD on Wednesday.
