The Home Run Derby lives once again as part of the
All-Star day
festivities.
In the senior circuit Jim Templeton lead the way with 5 home runs followed
by John McNamara with 2. Bob Williams and Larry Thompson both hit some
really hard shots only to have them fall short of the fence.
In the junior circuit Mike Cairns hit 5 home runs, followed by Ed Schepp
with 2. There were some really long shots during this one as Mike was able
to reach the 3rd tier.
President Dave Paravanni then called for a hit off between the two
champions.
Jim Templeton and his pitcher Jim Holderbaum vs. Mike Cairns and his
pitcher Ron Chafe.
Jim Templeton lead off going 2 for 5 and setting the mark. Mike followed
up with 3 in a row taking a 1 run lead going into the final 5 swings. Jim
was not able to convert any of the last 5 but hit some shots that anyone
would be proud of and finished with a Championship round of 2 and Grand
Total of 7. Mike took his last 5 swings going 2 for 5 and finishing with a
Championship round of 5 and 10 overall taking the overall championship.
Thanks to Ron and Jim for serving up some real meatballs!!
I would also like to thank all of the fans for their encouragement for all
of the participants and Ed Schepp's family for helping in the field.
