Red Division July 19th, 2010

Let’s review week two of the second half beginning with what appeared to be a fairly even matchup. On Field #4 Jennifer Haley’s Coin Laundromat and Sidney Steinberger MD took the diamond in an early second half battle for first place. The affair did not live up to its billing as Jennifer Haley’s repeated their Week One feat by rolling to a convincing sweep of the MD in the twin bill. The Doc couldn’t muster much of a hitting attack as they lost the first game 11-6, and then went quietly in the night cap 18-6. Jennifer Haley’s (3-1) hit the ball long and hard, lead by this year’s Home Run Hitting contest winner, Russ Hawley, who hit two more dingers against Sid, to knock the Doc out of a first place tie and back to a 0.500 record (2-2). By the way congratulations to Russ on claiming this season’s Home Run hitting crown. Way to go Russ.

Down on Field #2 Durig Audiology and Judge Linda Teodosio played in a rematch of the season opener. Back in Week One the two teams split. No reason to think the second meeting would produce a different result as a split was once again in order. In the first game the Judge outscored Durig in a 13-8 decision. Durig (1-3) came back in game two with a walk off victory in the seventh inning and defeated Judge Linda (2-2) in a 14-13 squeaker.  Our Player of the Week comes from this matchup as Dennis Loughry helped Durig earn a split in their doubleheader. Dennis went 6 for 7, scored 5 runs and played a defensively solid outfield. Nice job Dennis.

And on Field #3, Jim and Sons Transmission and Klaben Auto faced each other in an automobile themed doubleheader. Klaben Auto started the evening the same way they did back on May 10th by winning the first game 20-17. However, they couldn’t pull off the sweep as Jim and Sons Transmission (3-1) came back in the night cap winning the game 12-9 to remain in a tie for first place in the second half of the Red Division season. This was Klaben’s (1-1) first doubleheader of the second half.

Next week will be an off week for all Silver League teams. The Red Division will return to action on Monday, August 2, 2010. The schedule for the resumption of play has Sidney Steinberger MD on bye. The matchups are as follow:

Field #2          Klaben Auto   vs. .Durig Audiology

Field #3          Jim and Sons Transmission vs. Judge Linda Teodosio

Field #4          Jennifer Haley’s vs. Akron Aeros

Just a reminder to sign up for the Silver League Golf Outing to be held at Paradise Lakes Golf Course, Saturday, October 9th, 2010, at 8:00 am. Information and registration are available on the Silver League web site. Also, make plans to attend the season ending Silver League banquet at Guys Party Center on Sunday, September 26th, 2010. Enjoy the off week; get those hammies, sore arms, and tired legs rested.
