SILVER LEAGUE
NEWSLETTER JULY
4TH,
2008
HOLIDAY
GREETINGS:
Hope everyone
has a safe and
happy FOURTH of
JULY and
remembers the
true meaning of
this Holiday and
celebrates it
accordingly.
ALL STAR GAME:
A big thank you
to both GARY
CARPENTER and
RED BOLE were
instrumental in
helping us
return our
Annual All Star
game to
FIRESTONE
STADIUM, JULY 27th.
GARY made the
initial contacts
which led to RED
making the final
contact and
decision to play
the game at
FIRESTONE. Way
to go guys,
great job.
MORE ALL-STAR
NEWS
– League
Directors it is
YOUR
RESPONSIBILITY
to get the list
of names for
your Division’s
All Star teams
to the League
web site. Your
Division’s
players will not
appear on the
All Star section
of the web site
unless YOU
SUBMIT them.
NEW “KID” IN
TOWN
– Thanks to the
efforts of LARRY
THOMPSON (GOLD
DIVISION), there
is a new senior
softball league
in the area.
The NILES
RECREATION
GOLDEN LEAGUE is
set to start
operation with
three teams of
mixed ages.
Thompson hopes
interest will
increase next
year and the
League will
eventually grow
like the Silver
League did. He
also points out,
“The Niles
League will not
be in
competition with
the Silver
League but
rather in
conjunction with
the Silver
League. I’m
hoping that
players from our
Niles League
will also want
to play in the
Silver League
while players
from this area
who are playing
in the Silver
League will also
have another
night of senior
softball in
their own back
yard.”
HOW ABOUT THOSE
STANDINGS
- Every Silver
League has won
at least two
games and no
teams are
undefeated. A
real battle in
the RED DIVISION
with SHERIFF
ALEXANDER and
JENNIFER HALEY’s
COIN LAUNDRAMAT
both on to at
7-3. BLUE
DIVISION’s
PENINSULA
PYTHONS must
have had a huge
dose of VIAGRA
in the second
half as they
have climbed
from the first
half bottom to
being undefeated
(2-0) in the
second half.
The WHITE saw
JIM&SON’s
TRANSMISSION
fall from its
familiar first
place spot to a
tie for second
with A.C.E READY
MIX, FIRESTONE
CREDIT UNION and
the GREENVIEW
INN at 1-1 as
they all chase
Division leader
ROBART’s ALL
STARS (2-0). In
the GOLD
DIVISION first
half winner
KAISER
PERMANENTE (4-0)
holds the lead
over BARBERTON
MOOSE LODGE
#759, PHYSICIANS
MUTUAL and
WELFLEY
TECHNOLOGIES,
who all sport
2-1 marks. Looks
like an
interesting
second half
developing in
all the
Divisions.
ONE WINDING DOWN
BUT ANOTHER
WAITING IN THE
WINGS
– As our summer
SILVER LEAGUE is
winding down
(six weeks
left), plans are
currently being
made for NOT ONE
but TWO FALL
DIVISION
LEAGUES. One
will be a “form
your own team”
League and the
other a
“draft-type”
League. More
information
coming.
EVENTS IN THE
FUTURE
- Not too early
to start forming
your four-man
scramble team
for the ANNUAL
LEAGUE GOLF
OUTING. More
information on
the horizon
SILVER LEAGUE
BANQUET
currently
scheduled for
SEPTEMBER 28th
at ANTHE’s,
reserve the
date.
RATINGS
– DIVISION
DIRECTORS don’t
forget to start
putting your
player rating
sheets together
so your
manager’s have
ample time to
fill them out
and turn them
into you.
NEW OFFICERS -
Now is the time
to start
thinking about
running for the
League’s Board
of Directors.
New Division
Reps will be
needed this
year, election
in August.
QUESTIONS OF THE
MONTH
– Should age or
playing ability
be the
determining
factor in what
Division a
player should be
in? Have a GREAT
FOURTH and a
tremendous
finish to the
final weeks of
the season.
